Fight talk

George Mallory famously replied “because it’s there” when asked why he wanted to climb the highest mountain in the world. Some people are driven to follow their dreams and their imagination, regardless of what anyone else may think at the time. It is only in hindsight that we think of these mavericks as pioneers. And as legends. Let me introduce you to two modern day George Mallorys…

The first is Jake Burton, founder of Burton Snowboards. If you think snowboarding only became popular in the late 90s, you’d be right. But Jake founded his snowboard company back in 1977, when few people had even heard of snowboards, and even fewer wanted them. We feel fine

If you are a bit of a facebook stalker then you’re going to love this!

We feel fine is a collection of human emotions sourced from a large number of blogs. The system searches the world’s newly posted blog entries for occurrences of the phrases “I feel” and “I am feeling”. When it finds such a phrase, it records the full sentence and identifies the “feeling” expressed in that sentence (e.g. sad, happy, depressed, etc.). You can explore the emotions in six interactive ways each from a different vantage point.

The creators Jonathan Harris & Sep Kamvar write

At its core, We Feel Fine is an artwork authored by everyone. It will grow and change as we grow and change, reflecting what’s on our blogs, what’s in our hearts, what’s in our minds. We hope it makes the world seem a little smaller, and we hope it helps people see beauty in the everyday ups and downs of life.

I can confirm for the benefit of you and them “we feel” pretty inspired by this project a very cool flash app indeed!
